Bird watching

Bird Watching is easy, as Vanuatu is home to a prolific and diverse birdlife.
The breeding season (September to January) is the best time for this, particularly in the southern islands.

Snorkelling

Snorkelling can be done at two fine spots just 15 minutes from Port Vila, namely Erakor and Hideaway Islands.
They are easily reached by local bus and both resorts cater to day visitors.
Make sure to take your sunscreen.

Diving

Diving can be enjoyed from a multitude of dive sites, many of which can be found off Efate.
There are numerous wrecks around Vila and Mele Bays, mainly freighters, and also the Star of Russia (possibly built by the same shipyard that constructed the Titanic) and the former Qantas flying boat, Tasman.

A number of dive operators offer tours for new and experienced divers around Efate’s offshore islands, the most famous of which are Tukutuku,

Hat Island and Paul’s Rock.

There is plenty are on offer.
The many beautiful beaches are suitable for swimming and most hotels have swimming pools.
Kayaking, sailing, windsurfing and water skiing are also easy to organize.

Golf

Port Vila gives plenty of opportunity for teeing off.
Le Meridien Port Vila and Le Lagoon Resort both include nine hole golf courses for social players as well as for the more experienced player.
The Port Vila Golf and Country Club is only a 15-minute drive from town.

Markets provide a lively and colorful experience.
The best days to visit are Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The markets are open every day but Sunday, from 05:00 until late.

Fishing

From Port Vila, you can easily reach bountiful fishing grounds within one hour and get some serious fishing in very quickly.
Full day tours usually include lunch and all the necessary equipment (with the exception of fly rods).
Queenfish, blue and black marlin, yellow fin, wahoo, dogtooth, mahi mahi and great trevally wait for your bait all year round.
